Let’s understand the cause
The Brain4ward Foundation is a 100% non-profit foundation founded to sponsor specialized research, into the earliest possible diagnosis of Parkinson, (atypical) Parkinsonism’s and other related or similar neurodegenerative diseases that ultimately will lead to serious cognitive and movement disorders.
Most of the current research is focused on the treatment of symptoms through medication and although medication is important, the Brain4ward Foundation is going to exclusively sponsor research that is focused on early diagnosis and prevention.
As long as the exact causes of most of these neurodegenerative diseases are still largely unknown, it is even more important to be able to research and track the early symptoms in future patients. In most cases, these symptoms are a precursor to the more severe phases of these neurodegenerative diseases and therefore earlier treatments might slow down the progression and improve the lives of future patients.
Our Goals
Our goals are arranged in 6 key factors … the pillars.
Spread knowledge and awareness
Increase the awareness of neurodegenerative diseases through knowledge sharing in all media types and to institutions and the general public.
Funding
Raise funds for academic fundamental research focused on early diagnosis of brain disease in people younger than 45 years.
Sponsorship
Acting as sponsor and co-sponsor with the help of finance and support to brain research by specialized institutions and individual researchers.
Root Cause
Towards a better understanding of the possible relationship between human cognition, behavior, physical condition and lifestyle in times of health and disease.
Slowdown progression
Towards an early diagnosis and therefore possibly a slowdown or even reversal of the progressiveness of these brain diseases on the one hand.
Find Solutions
Stimulate young brain researchers to advance and enlarge brain-, cognitive and behavioral science and to promote thinking and acting ‘out of the pharma-box’, whereby co-financing with other (educational) institutions or (charity) foundations will be possible.

Drs. Cathrin M. van der Werf-de Koning
- An economically trained doctor with years of experience in management- and board positions in healthcare organisations. Experienced supervisor of financial institutions (banks) and social organizations in healthcare, education and the housing sector. Still active as director (chairman) and supervisor of pension funds.
Richard van Houten, MSc
- Commercial management positions at several multinationals (1993-2003). Owner/Director of consulting and training bureau Bron & Partners (2003-2022). Rainmaker and experienced in commercial focus and strategies for-profit companies. Currently an interim consultant in aligning organizations to operate more sustainably while maintaining healthy profits.
